Project Insight Out

August 2021 - January 2022

Social Media Manager

  • Final year project which aims to increase awareness on suicide prevention and mental health services in Singapore through a social media campaign on YouTube, Instagram and Tik Tok.

  • Managing the Instagram account (@project_insightout) and creating posts to raise awareness and educate our audience on the topics of:

    • Helping someone in distress

    • Helping a suicide loss survivor

    • What to do if you are feeling suicidal

    • Mental Well-Being

    • Self-Care

  • Devised a social media marketing plan and proactively done extensive research on the above topics to ensure the accuracy of the content posted as well as to create meaningful content.

  • As of March 2022, the project's Instagram account has reached over a hundred followers with an average of 40% engagement rate on each post.

A glimpse of the project Instagram Page.

The posts adopt a puzzle-feed style, with each series coded with a different colour. There are a total of 5 series, posted in the following order:

  • Understanding Suicide

  • Helping Someone in Distress

  • Helping a Suicide Loss Survivor

  • What To Do If You're Feeling Suicidal

  • Mental Well-Being Project

Group Picture taken at the end of the first filming session.

Although my role is social media marketing, I am also involved in the filming works for our YouTube videos. The filming of our YouTube video "Suicide: How It Affected Me" was completed successfully with our interviewees that day.

Learning Takeaways & Skills Developed

  • I have developed my organisational and time management skills while working on the posts under a tight timeline.

  • Through community mapping with the Samaritans of Singapore (SOS), interviewing youths with suicide related experiences as well as doing extensive research about suicide, I have learnt to better empathise with suicide attempters and survivors.

  • With suicide still being considered a taboo topic in Singapore, many people would avoid talking about this sensitive topic. Hence, it starts with us being more open in talking about suicide with the people around us so as to encourage others to do the same.

Project: BEep The Hope

January 2020

  • Using the Design Thinking Methodology phases, my group worked together and innovated on existing ideas to design our own Self-Emergency Alert System to address the needs of the elderly living in isolation.

  • Interviewed seniors from Lion Befrienders and created an Empathy Map based on our findings to come up with the problem statement - Elderly living in isolation need attention on their well-being because they live alone.

  • Well-received by other students and the module lecturer. Comments included that it was creative and well-designed.

  • Presented our findings in the form of a website, as a Design Thinking Journal.

Learning Takeaways & Skills Developed:

  • I enjoyed the process of creating this prototype while learning to brainstorm with my peers and be open-minded to feedback received.

  • This project has enabled me to look at problems from a design thinking perspective, utilising my creative and critical thinking skills.

This is our prototype along with the technologies that would be incorporated into the product, which seeks to resolve the problem (mentioned above)
